Citrus fruits are a rich source of flavonoids, a class of polyphenolic secondary plant metabolites that play an important role in many biological processes. Diosmin is a flavonoid glycoside, often referred to as phlebotonic, used in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids.

Diosmin is a disaccharide derivative that consists of a diosmethine substituted by a 6-O-(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl moiety at position 7 through a glycosidic bond. It can be used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It is a glycosylflavone, rutinoside, disaccharide derivative, monomethoxyflavone and dihydroxyflavanone. It is derived from diosmetin. (source)

Diosmin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and is used in the treatment of various diseases. It has been widely used since 1969 as a phlebotonic and vasoprotective agent for chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and hemorrhoidal disease. 

1. With its antioxidant properties, Diosmin helps fight free radicals, preventing and reducing oxidative stress.

2. Reduces feelings of pain, swelling and tightness in the legs associated with chronic venous disease, while helping to increase vein tone and elasticity. 

3. May also provide relief for those suffering from secondary restless legs syndrome (RLS) caused by CVI.
