Your brain can run 150 times faster - here is what is holding it back
Posted on: 06/24/2026The cholesterol in your blood has zero connection to the cholesterol in your brain. Zero. And most people have no idea, which means most people have no idea why their brain is slowing down.
Your brain lives behind a wall called the blood-brain barrier. Nothing from your blood gets through - not the cholesterol from your food, not the lipoproteins from your liver. Your brain has to build everything it needs - from scratch - using only what energy you give it.

Making a single molecule of cholesterol costs your cells ~100 units of ATP. Not your whole supply. Just one molecule. Your brain needs to do this thousands of times a day.

Your brain is 2% of your body weight. It holds 25% of your body's total cholesterol. It is the most cholesterol-dense organ you have, and every gram of it was manufactured inside your skull, because lipoprotein-bound cholesterol from your blood cannot get in.
