Gotu Kola - an adaptogen that restores harmony and balance

Gotu kola is a plant in the category of adaptogens, i.e. with neuromodulating properties and promoting proper stress tolerance. It supports cognitive function, improves concentration and can be helpful during periods of depressed mood levels.

It inhibits neuronal damage and neurodegradative processes. Gotu kola alleviates the effects of stress, facilitates memory and focus. Gotu kola and some of its constituents may support neuronal connectivity, which is essential for cognitive functioning and memory. Triterpenes, which include asiaticoside, madecasoside, asiatic acid and madecasic acid, are the main constituents of Gotu kola and have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. Gotu kola can improve memory and support cognitive functions.

It has been shown to have cardioprotective effects - taking gotu kola for 12 months can help stabilise atherosclerotic plaques, making them less likely to break off and cause clot formation, which can cause a heart attack or stroke. Supplementation is indicated to combat hypertension and any vascular and cardiovascular related insufficiencies including haemorrhoids.

Gotu kola has been shown to significantly (more than 40%) stimulate the enzyme glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), the target of which is the production of GABA. Thus, by stimulating GAD activity, the availability of GABA in the brain is increased.

Do not combine with sleeping and sedative drugs, as gotu kola inhibits their metabolism, which may exacerbate their sleeping and sedative effects.
