Among the most valuable properties of shiitake mushrooms are their immunomodulatory, anticancer and antioxidant effects. They have long been used in Far Eastern medicine and are known as the ‘elixir of life’ due to their health-promoting properties.

This mushroom contains lentinan, which is effective against cancer. Lentinan stimulates the immune system and activates cells and proteins, including macrophages and T lymphocytes, which fight cancer cells and leads to increased production of antibodies: interferon and interleukins. They are effective in the treatment of hepatitis B, therapy of mycobacterial infections, against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli. They can also inhibit HIV replication.
